Marudhamalai Temple is one of the most important Murugan temples in Tamil Nadu, dramatically situated on the Marudhamalai Hills about 12 km from Coimbatore city. The temple is dedicated to Lord Murugan (Kartikeya) and is believed to be over 1,000 years old. The main shrine sits high on the hill, reached either by a long flight of steps or by vehicle up the winding ghat road. The temple complex is beautifully maintained with elaborately carved gopurams (entrance towers) and intricate sculptures. From the hilltop, the panoramic views of Coimbatore city and the distant Nilgiri mountains are breathtaking, especially at sunrise and sunset.

The Perur Pateeswarar Temple is one of the most ancient and architecturally magnificent Shiva temples in South India, located about 7 km from Coimbatore city. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva as Pateeswarar and Goddess Parvati as Pachaiamman. The temple is believed to date back over 1,500 years and the current structure features exquisite Dravidian architecture — towering gopurams (gateway towers) covered with thousands of intricately carved sculptures depicting gods, demons and mythological scenes. The main hall (mandapam) has elaborately carved pillars that are considered masterpieces of Tamil temple sculpture.

The Isha Yoga Center, founded by Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, is one of the most visited spiritual destinations in India, located at the foot of the Velliangiri Hills about 30 km from Coimbatore. The centrepiece is the Dhyanalinga — a unique meditative space said to be a powerful energy centre, housed in a stunning ellipsoid stone structure. The campus also features the Adiyogi Shiva statue — at 34 metres, the world's largest bust sculpture, now a Guinness World Record holder. The beautifully landscaped grounds, the Theerthakund spring pool, the Spanda Hall and the Isha Arogya spa make this a compelling destination even for those with no specific interest in yoga.

The Gedee Car Museum is a hidden gem in Coimbatore — a private collection of over 70 rare and lovingly restored vintage cars, motorcycles and other vehicles. Founded by industrialist V. G. Siddhartha, the collection spans over a century of automotive history and includes such rarities as a 1901 De Dion Bouton, a 1924 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost, a 1934 Mercedes-Benz, vintage Jaguars, Bentleys, American muscle cars and several classic Indian motorcycles. Each vehicle is in pristine running condition and accompanied by detailed historical notes. Car enthusiasts will find it especially rewarding but even casual visitors find the collection impressive.

VOC Park and Zoo, named after the freedom fighter V. O. Chidambaram Pillai, is a large urban park and zoo located in the heart of Coimbatore city. The park spans several acres with manicured gardens, fountains, a children's play area and a small boating lake. The zoo section houses a variety of animals including lions, deer, monkeys, crocodiles and many species of birds. A popular miniature toy train runs through the park, especially enjoyed by families with children. The park is a beloved recreational space for Coimbatore residents and a convenient stop on any city tour.

The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) in Coimbatore has one of the most beautifully maintained botanical gardens in South India, open to the public on weekends. The vast campus is home to hundreds of species of trees, shrubs, flowering plants, medicinal herbs and ornamental plants. The rose garden, the cactus and succulent section, the palm avenue and the tropical fruit orchard are particular highlights. The spacious grounds are perfect for a relaxed walk and the well-labelled plants make it educational too. The calm, academic atmosphere is a refreshing contrast to the busy city.

Kovai Kutralam — often called the "Spa of Coimbatore" — is a cluster of scenic waterfalls located about 27 km from the city in the foothills of the Western Ghats. The falls are smaller and more accessible than the famous Courtallam in Tirunelveli but are equally refreshing and less crowded. The water cascades through forested terrain and a natural pool at the base is perfect for a cool dip. The surrounding area is lush with tropical vegetation and the short trek to the main falls is enjoyable. It's a popular weekend destination for city residents and a great way to cool off.

Monkey Falls is a popular waterfall located about 37 km from Coimbatore on the picturesque road to Palakkad, near the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve. The falls cascade through a rocky forest gorge into a natural pool below, where visitors can wade and swim in the clear, cool water. The site is named for the troops of Bonnet macaques that frequent the trees above the falls — watching them leap between branches while you swim below is a delightful experience. The surrounding forest is part of the Anaimalai Hills and the drive to the falls through the foothills is scenic and often enlivened by spotted deer and birdlife.

The Aliyar Dam is one of the main dams in the Parambikulam Aliyar Project, located about 65 km from Coimbatore at the base of the Anaimalai Hills. The reservoir is surrounded by the forests of the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve, creating a beautiful backdrop. The Tamil Nadu Forest Department runs a small nature park at the site with a deer park, a crocodile farm and a butterfly park. Boating on the reservoir offers scenic views of the forested hills. The drive from Coimbatore to Aliyar through the Anaimalai foothills is itself exceptionally scenic, passing through tea and teak forests.
